The main task of robotic vacuum cleaners is high-quality cleaning of the house in automatic mode. The new ECOVACS Deebot OZMO 950 DX9G model scans the room, draws up a traffic plan and even knows how to recognize the floor covering.
Every year, robotic vacuum cleaners are becoming smarter, and their capabilities are expanding so much that sometimes they are ahead of even their usual wired counterparts. A good example of this is the new Deebot OZMO 950 DX9G. In it, ECOVACS applied a new orientation technology in the Smart Navi 3.0 space, using the readings of three types of sensors at once: laser, touch sensors, and elevation sensors. Before cleaning, the robot scans the room, draws up a 3D map of the floor with the obstacles detected, and builds an optimal movement plan. The novelty can be configured through the application on the smartphone, specify cleaning zones or restricted areas, set the suction power, and also enable the carpet cleaning or floor cleaning mode. Advanced Deebot OZMO 950
The special features of the robot vacuum cleaner OZMO 950 directly come from the technology embedded in it. Thus, laser scanning of a room and drawing up a traffic pattern, eliminating repeated passage through the same place, allows this model to carry out both dry and wet cleaning, both of smooth floors and combined with the bypass function of rugs. Here’s how it is implemented technologically:
Side brushes sweep away dust in the central part, where it is picked up by a central turbo brush with the participation of air in the vacuum cleaner’s turbine;
A turbo brush equipped with bristles of different lengths and elastic rubber plates collects dust, crumbs and grains of sand from a hard floor. According to the manufacturer, due to the special arrangement in the bristles in the V-brush and the suction effect, the robot can clean cracks and joints in the floor up to 4 mm deep. To clean the carpets, the kit includes a removable direct suction unit without a brush, which avoids winding wool and hair in this working area;
The vacuum cleaner’s suction turbine creates a vacuum with a force of up to 1500 Pa (in Max + mode), with the help of which any debris falling on the turbo brush is sucked, including cereals and sand;
If you need wet cleaning, you can pre-pour water in a special tank, attach a microfiber nozzle to its lower part and install it all on a robot vacuum cleaner. After starting, the device will dispense water into the fabric in a dosed manner, ensuring its moderate wetting. As a result, the fabric nozzle behind the suction unit completes the cleaning by wiping off the smallest electrified dust from the floor;
It is noteworthy that water is supplied to microfiber only during the movement of the robot and stops when it stops. Therefore, the robot can be safely left on charge even with the water available in the tank. The tank capacity is 430 ml – this amount is enough to clean almost the entire apartment. Microfiber can be removed from the site and stretched for subsequent cleaning. In addition, disposable fabric pads are included.
It would seem that the main issues with cleaning throughout the apartment have been resolved. But this robot allows you to implement a number of additional functions that are rarely found in other brands. This is a ban on entering a certain area, installation of a virtual wall (without additional equipment) and an indication of a restricted area for cleaning. All these settings can be made through the ECOVACS Home mobile application, which we will discuss below. But first, about the main thing.

Design features and equipment
Deebot OZMO 950 has a classic perfectly round disk shape with a small cylindrical protrusion on the top. It contains a rotating laser scanner of the room, with the help of which the vacuum cleaner receives data on the size of the room, the location of the walls and all objects that can interfere with movement. The thickness (or height) of the body, including this protruding “radar”, is 93 mm, which allows the device to pass under the protruding parts of the sofa and chairs without any problems.
A rubberized plastic bumper with integrated IK sensors and touch sensors is installed on the front of the robot, and a transparent removable water tank on the back. On the top cover, in addition to the laser scanner unit, there is a single touch-type power button. It begins to be highlighted in white when the device is activated and goes out when it is turned off. The manufacturer decided not to place any displays and other controls.
At first glance, the top cover seems monolithic and it is not clear how to get to the inside of the device. But if you look closely, then in its back you can see a recess for the finger, which allows you to pick up the plate and open it, leaning forward. Surprisingly, there are no latches on which to hold it. The locking mechanism is hidden in two loops that hold the lid in a closed or open position.
A more interesting view opens under the lid: a red switch, which, if shifted to the right, activates the power of the device. At the same time, a tiny white LED lights up nearby, indicating the launch of the Wi-Fi remote control system. A small button is designed to pair the robot and smartphone while in the home wireless network.
Below is a block of a transparent container for collecting garbage and dust. Its hinged handle has a locking mechanism that rigidly “locks” this container in a given seat. In the container itself, the manufacturer placed a filter block consisting of a primary – kapron mesh to trap large and small particles, a preliminary – foam sponge with the smallest porosity, and a HEPA final fine filter.
In the back there is a removable container for water made of transparent plastic. It is to her that the nozzle with microfiber cloth mounted on it is attached.
On the back of the robot are two rotating three-leaf brushes, two wheels with separate drive, a central rotary wheel and a suction module with replaceable blocks – one with a turbo brush, and the second with direct suction of increased power. How to configure Deebot OZMO 950
I must admit that the robot is ready to work without any additional settings. When turned on, it will make a U-turn on the spot, scan the room and determine the optimal route of movement. After that, he will walk around the perimeter of the room, and then he will clean the entire internal area of the room with zigzag movements.
But it would not be a robot if it could not be programmed. All additional control options open after connecting the robot to the smartphone through the ECOVACS Home app for Android and ECOVACS Home for iOS. After installing it, you need to go a small step-by-step way of “linking” the device to your home Wi-Fi network, indicating the appropriate password and scanning the QR code located under the top cover of the robot.
After that, you will discover the advanced functions of a robot vacuum cleaner:
set the boundaries of the working area on a virtual map. This can be done for both dry and wet cleaning;
“Draw” rectangular zones for the selected floor area;
plan a cleaning schedule for the days of the week for each room;
In the application, you can enable or disable voice reports;

activate the MAX + mode, in which the suction force increases to 1500 Pa (and the motor volume – up to 66 dB).

Device in work and service
The first thing you pay attention to when you turn on this device and start the cleaning process is a very quiet operation. We tested a lot of such devices and this robot, according to our estimates, turned out to be the most quiet, unless, of course, ignoring loud voice alerts. But they can be disabled in the application settings. Another very important point is the “smart” orientation in space and confident movement around the room. This is not a blind kitten that pokes his nose into every obstacle, but a real robot. When he reaches a wall or a cabinet, he confidently brakes at a precisely calibrated distance, where his rotating brushes will reach the extreme cleaning zone, and then will pass exactly along a vertical surface.
But if there are legs of chairs, a simulator or a chair on his way, then he still bumps into them, neatly circumventing obstacles around the perimeter. When meeting with the wire of an electric extension cord, the robot will first try to get out, and then turn off the rotation of the brushes, turn around and continue cleaning.
After the entire area of the room has been cleaned (according to the estimates of the integrated navigation system), the robot will report on the completion of the mission and head to the charging station. All device movements are visually displayed in a mobile application on the room map.
It is convenient that in the application you can activate the increased suction power at any time during cleaning. Three levels are available: standard, maximum and Max +. In the last two, noise decently increases due to the increased operation of the turbine, but the suction power increases almost to the level of a cyclone vacuum cleaner. It is recommended to use these modes with a direct suction nozzle for cleaning carpets and rooms with hair and wool.
The vacuum cleaner can be programmed either for certain days at a given time, or for “continuous cleaning”, indicating the time when the robot should not bother the owners, for example, from 10 pm to 8 am. The work of the robot can be monitored remotely, and it will inform you about various events, for example, overflow of the dust bag or the end of charging through special alerts. Like any other “smart” devices, the robot firmware is regularly updated, and the procedure for downloading new software is carried out through a mobile application.
As for the daily maintenance of the robot cleaner, the dust container and filters are easy to disassemble and can be washed and dried. All cavities of the vacuum cleaner are also easily accessible for cleaning. In addition, in the mobile application you can see the statistics of the robot and the state of its components and wear of the brushes.
In the field of autonomy, this robot can be called the leader among all the tested vacuum cleaners. It has a built-in battery with a capacity of 5,200 mAh, the charge of which, according to the manufacturer, is enough to clean an area of 200 m2.
The vacuum cleaner is charged only from the base station, running into the appropriate contacts. A separate plug connector for charging in this model is not provided. By the way, at the expense of the base station: on its lower side, the manufacturer provided an anti-slip pad and a 3M type adhesive layer, with which this charging unit can be firmly fixed to the floor. If this is not done, then during cleaning the robot will move this cradle and subsequently will not be able to call on it to charge. The Deebot OZMO 950 robot vacuum cleaner compares favorably with its counterparts in having unique functions, including combined dry and wet cleaning, the ability to increase the suction power for rooms where pets live and, of course, advanced functions for setting up cleaning zones and programming by time.
The manufacturer especially highlights the unique function of storing the plan of rooms on different floors of the house in the device’s memory, which is useful for use in cottages. For children’s rooms and workrooms, it will be important to build a virtual wall that prohibits access to the robot, as well as indications of the selected “spot” cleaning zones, for example, where crumbs or other rubbish should be urgently removed.
However, the manufacturer notes that this device is not intended for cleaning pieces of paper, fabric and large pebbles, as this can damage the device mechanisms. It is also impossible to remove something spilled on the floor with it. this will cause problematic operation of the wheels and turbo brushes. However, if the apartment has low sills between rooms (up to 2 cm high), then the robot will easily overcome them.
The robot has a very wide range of functions and is very reliable in operation. For a month of active testing, he did not have a single problem with either the wheel motors, or with the brushes, or with the maintenance. When cleaning a room of 20 m2, the dust-collecting container was filled only by a third, which means three times a week cleaning will not be a problem, even if you have no time to clean the device.
