Asus VivoBook S15 Review : Excellent power, poor battery
Intel Core i5-8250U processor 1.6Ghz (up to 3.4Ghz)
We are testing a 15-inch laptop from Asus – a rather controversial device with good filling and high performance, but poor battery life. Read more about the model in our review.
Asus VivoBook 15: memory and power
The VivoBook we tested has 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB SSD storage for Windows and applications, and a classic 1 TB disk for your data. Here you will not soon run into any restrictions on memory and storage.
The Intel Core i3-7020U processor offers very good performance for everyday tasks, and in general the system works pleasantly fast. The 15.6-inch Full-HD display has a matte finish, which improves readability of content in the sun.
Of the interfaces on board there is all the most important, but we would like more fast USB-3-ports. Unfortunately, an SD card reader only works with Micro-SD cards – in this regard, it would be better to have a full, large card reader so that you can transfer files from cameras and cameras without additional adapters.
Good ergonomics but mediocre mobility
The keyboard has a pleasantly soft feedback, a large high free play and a good distance between the keys. We also liked the clickpad: the surface does not stick and allows the fingers to easily slide on it. In addition, even at full load, the device maintains a moderate level of operating noise.
For a model with a 15.6-inch screen, the laptop is quite light, but nevertheless rather thick. The 33 Wh battery is relatively small, which leads to a disappointing battery life of just 5 hours for video playback and about 3.5 hours for our testing in productive mode.
It should be recognized that those who plan to use the laptop primarily at home will receive a recommendable device at an affordable price. But for business trips and long work away from the outlet, the model is not suitable.
We liked the ASUS VivoBook 15 X540UA-DM1138T at the very beginning of the test tests. The performance here is very good, equipment and ergonomics also deserve attention. But the 15.6-inch display is only mediocre, mobility also disappointed us: for a long work away from the outlet, the device is not suitable. As a result, we can say that the Asus VivoBook 15 offers very good performance and a lot of memory at an affordable price, but poor battery life.
- very good performance
- stable body, although bulky
- good input devices
- large memory and disk space
- short battery life
- display is mediocre
- no USB C ports
- micro-SD card reader only
